1. Site Preparation

Ferry trip to Inis Mór (Inishmore) Island to plan Geothermal installation

Small drilling rig required to acess site.

2. Geothermal Boreholes & Piping

Geothermal option selected is not effected by constant salt sea breeze.
Drilling rig transported by ferry from Galway port.
Rock surface 400 mm below ground, drilling required two days on site.
Only one earth probe was required for heating & hot water energy, drilled to 120 meters deep.

3. Heat Pump Installation

Plant Room – Fittings & Controls (Arran Islands Project)

The plant room for the cottage was fully upgraded to support the new geothermal system. All hydraulic fittings were redesigned and pressure-tested, including flow/return manifolds, safety kits, expansion vessels and the buffer tank connection.

High-efficiency circulation pumps ensure stable flow to Eco4 Radiant heating system. Pipework was insulated and reconfigured to maximize heat transfer and eliminate losses in the exposed island climate.

Smart controls were installed to independently manage each zone. Integrated sensors monitor flow, return, cylinder temperature and heat pump performance, improving COP and prevent overheating.

The result is a compact, efficient plant room that guarantees stable operation, reduced running costs and provides consistent comfort in a 200-year-old home that feels like a new house.

Installation:

  • Heat Pump fitted in garden shed
  • Thermal store provides fast heat to Eco4 System
  • Geothermal connected directly to heat pump
  • The existing power supply sufficient to power the heat pump system ( House supply 12 Kw).
  • Connects direct to Eco4 Radiant floor heating system
  • Smart controls manage comfort in 8 separate zones and hot water generation.
  • Hot Water and heating operating efficiency delivered at over 500%

4. Distribution Manifolds

System to the Eco4 Radiant System using a buffer tank.

This ensures stable flow across all circuits, stabilizing temperatures throughout the house. Each loop is individually controlled and monitored, allowing the smart zoning system to deliver heat only where needed. The compact manifold layout improves efficiency, reduces heat loss and keeps the entire system easy to service.

5. Eco4 Radiant Overfloor Heating

The Eco4 Radiant floor heating system provides fast even heat distribution to the cottage without floor reconstruction.

The low-profile design allows installation directly over existing surfaces, improving comfort while reducing heat loss. The system operates at low temperatures, pairing perfectly with the geothermal heat pump for maximum efficiency and low costs.

6. Eco4 Screed Application

The Eco4 screed application creates a smooth, thermally efficient surface that locks the heating pipes in place and ensures optimal heat transfer from the pipe to the room.

Its low-profile composition cuts heat-up time, improves comfort and maximises the efficiency of the geothermal system. The screed provides a durable, level finish ready for final floor coverings.
