  • Hot water is heated using the air evaporators in summer and ground energy in winter.
  • Heat generated by both energy sources, using ground energy at night and air energy in the afternoon.
  • Cooling in summer is generated free of charge, passive cooling from the ground cools the building.
  • High summer air temperatures recharge the boreholes to deliver higher efficiency in winter.
  • Solar tracking operates the system at zero cost using only surplus solar to run the equipment.
  • Equipment working life is extended by up to 10 additional years when operating below stress limits.

  • Air Source Heating and Cooling:

Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air in winter to warm the indoors and remove heat from inside air in the summer to cool the indoors. These systems are also efficient, but their effectiveness can be affected by extreme outdoor temperatures.

    Hybrid System Integration:

In a hybrid system, both geothermal and air source components are integrated and controlled by a smart thermostat or a control system. The system automatically selects the most energy-efficient and cost-effective heating or cooling source based on the current weather conditions and the desired indoor temperature.

  • Geothermal Heating and Cooling:

Geothermal systems utilize the stable temperature of the earth beneath the surface to heat and cool buildings. A series of pipes, known as a ground loop, is buried underground.

  • Winter Operation:

      • When it’s moderately cold outside, the system might utilize the geothermal heat pump because the ground temperature is warmer and more stable than the cold outdoor air.
      • In extremely cold conditions, the system might switch to the air source heat pump, as it can still extract some heat from the outdoor air, although less efficiently than the geothermal system.
  • Summer Operation:

      • In summer, the geothermal system is highly effective at cooling the indoor air by transferring heat from the building into the cooler ground.
      • If the outdoor air temperature becomes very high, the system can switch to the air source heat pump, which can still extract heat from the hot outdoor air, although with reduced efficiency.

AIR & GEOTHERMAL

HYBRID SYSTEM

1. Air Source Heat Pumps:

Heating Mode: In cold weather, air source heat pumps extract heat from the outdoor air and use it to heat the indoor space. While these systems can be efficient, their effectiveness decreases as the outdoor temperature drops significantly.

Cooling Mode: In warm weather, the process is reversed. The heat pump extracts heat from inside the building and releases it outside, cooling the indoor space.

2. Geothermal System:

Heating Mode: Geothermal systems use a series of pipes buried underground (ground loop) to extract heat from the Earth. This heat is then used to warm the indoor space. Geothermal systems are highly efficient because the ground temperature is relatively stable, especially compared to fluctuating outdoor air temperatures.

Cooling Mode: In the summer, geothermal systems work in reverse. They absorb heat from inside the building and transfer it into the ground, effectively cooling the indoor space.

Integration of Air Units with Geothermal Systems:

  • Hybrid Systems: In a hybrid system, both air source heat pumps and geothermal systems are integrated and controlled by a smart thermostat or control system.
  • Automatic Switching: The system automatically switches between the air source and geothermal components based on the outdoor temperature and heating/cooling demands. During moderate temperatures, the geothermal system is more efficient, while the air source heat pump is utilized during extreme temperatures when the ground loop’s efficiency might decrease.
  • Optimizing Efficiency: Integrating these systems optimizes efficiency and ensures that the building is heated or cooled using the most energy-efficient method based on prevailing conditions.

By integrating air units (air source heat pumps) with a geothermal system in a hybrid setup, you can create a highly efficient heating and cooling solution that maximizes energy savings and minimizes environmental impact. This integration is often managed through sophisticated control systems that automate the process, ensuring seamless transitions between the two systems for optimal indoor comfort.
